Manly Strap-Ons May Contain Traces of Man Nuts

I’ve only just seen this Australian viral ad for Maxibon ice-cream from last year, and have to say that’s some manwich.

It’s as if they decided to satirise the intensely annoying – and self-defeating – MANly strap-on theme of a lot of very bad recent men’s advertising by taking it to the ultimate Desperate Danni absurdity. They really take the pistachio out of machismo.

Though in America it would probably be taken entirely seriously, and Maxibon would be bankrupted by thousands of lawsuits from distressed men who failed to develop chindominals.

  1. Hey, Australia is the home of the Gaytime icecream (“Have A Gaytime With A Friend”. We like our gelati ironic.

  2. Actually, most of us Yanks are mentally retarded. There’s no other explanation for our recent politics, is there?

And we take advertising very seriously. It’s our patriotic duty to believe everything advertisers tell us and to buy everything they want to sell us.

As to metrosexuality: why shouldn’t we take to it? It’s narcissism and advertising and consumerism all rolled into one big strap-on. And at least the scenery is nice.

  3. Maxibons would, possibly be taken seriously in America. Everytime I think Americans could not possibly take something seriously they do–usually with the effect of seeming mentally retarded.

Without a doubt American’s have taken metro-sexuality seriously to a degree which would have been embarassing 20 years ago I went to my gym today during a fairly busy time, when all of the businessmen are getting their bodies together- something I try to avoid just because of cramped quarters. Something I noticed among the younger straight men was an astonishing amount of narcissism I found myself as amused as I was turned on, by their posing and pumping in front of the mirrors next to each other. There are enough gay fellows sneaking glances to keep my attention normally.
You definitely need to be proud of your predictions, Mark.
I wouldn’t try selling Maxibons . they might just go for it and start getting
